Natural Desiccated Thyroid

NDT is a compounded thyroid prescription that contains both T4 & T3. It is typically sourced from porcine (pig) thyroid glands.

Natural Desiccated Thyroid is an effective way to manage:

hypothyroidism

How does NDT differ from synthroid?

Synthroid is a synthetic form of T4, used in conventional medicine to treat hypothyroidism. T4 is converted to T3 at the cellular level. T3 is the active thyroid hormone we need for cellular function, without it we have hypothyroid symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, weight gain, hair loss, brittle nails, dry skin, brain fog, puffiness etc. While some find benefit in using synthroid, others who have issues converting T4 to T3 won’t see the same benefits and may find benefit using NDT. Desiccated thyroid contains all the thyroid hormones naturally found in the gland T4, T3, and calcitonin. Each individual responds differently and it’s important to discuss with your practitioner of which feels right for you.

Prior to therapy initiation, proper testing of your thyroid function needs to be carried out to ensure the correct levels of dosing is achieved. Monitoring of your thyroid levels will need to be done through routine blood testing.
